Animal Healing

Humans and animals share a mysterious bond beyond rational explanation. Together, they can nurture and heal one another in ways that conventional therapy cannot.

Countless studies have proven the great benefits that await those who participate in animal therapy. Animals accept without qualifications, and their very presence can encourage social activity, love and compassion among their human companions. However, humans are not the only beneficiaries of this interaction.

Animals respond physically and emotionally to human interaction. They need love, attention and compassion just as much as their owners and friends.

At AUM Healing Sanctuary, the aim is to improve the quality of life for both their human patrons and their animal friends.
“When people and animals come together, it is magic,” said founder Shankar Subramanian. “These animals want to be around people.”

AUM Healing Sanctuary has two primary aims regarding animal therapy. First, the center will use animals in therapy to benefit people seeking help. Animals can provide a unique, healing companionship for those in need. Horseback riding programs for both kids and adults, and simply spending time with various animals will play a major role in healing therapy. Second, the center is available to heal animals in need. AUM Healing Sanctuary is a safe haven, where animals can find safety and nurturing.

Currently, eight animals call AUM Healing Sanctuary home. These animals have experienced healing from both sides, as both animals of compassion and animals seeking help. The animals include one dog named Cabal, two cats named Aslan and Belan, two pigs named Oliver and Sarah and four horses named Dalton, Sir Galahad, Mocha and Levi.

Each of these animals has a unique story to tell and share with people seeking healing at AUM Sanctuary. In the future, Shankar hopes to bring more animals into the Sanctuary, including goats and llamas.

Mocha and Levi have one of the most unique histories of all of the animals at AUM Healing Sanctuary. Shankar rescued both of these "nurse mare" foals last May. Mocha and Levi, along with five other foals, had contracted salmonella. Although not all of the foals were able to overcome this illness, these two were able to pull through with the compassion and prayers of others. In addition to the love they received, the horses participated in one-on-one energy healing sessions, which helped them to grow strong and fight through their ailments.
